i haven't gotten the turbo out to check the bearing play yet, but if it turns out to need a rebuild i was wondering if any k26 will work? specifically using an Audi water&oil cooled k26? they seem to pop up on ebay often at giveaway prices.
does anyone know if the housings the same across all the k26's? except the addition of the water lines, of course. i imagine the turbine and compressor wheel sizes would likely be different.

if I remember correctly the 931 has a specfic turbo as it has a 3 bolt flange where most have 4 bolt, you might be able to get another K26 and swap the internals though _________________ 3 928s, |

The 3 bolt flange is fairly unique as I understand. I think I read something here on this Board once that said the Buick Grand National also used a 3-bolt configuration, but don't remember any of the details.
As for the turbo itself, different model year, and different market 931's had different setups (as did the Audis also using a K26). The compressor and turbine blade configurations, as well as the internal shape of the compressor and turbine housings could be mixed and matched in various combinations that resulted in different performance charcteristics and potentials. The numbers on the data plate tell the story, but I can't tell you what they "translate" into. One set of numbers, beginning with "K26-" is the configuration and the one starting with "5326" is the KKK part number. FWIW, I found a table showing 5 different KKK part numbered K26's for Audis and 4 for Porsche. _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

for some reason i thought other models used the 3-bolt manifold too. if not, then this is likely more trouble than it's worth.

I wouldn't try the GN turbo by the way, a buick will take a lot more boost than a 2L porsche block. _________________ 1987 924S 2.5L SOHC. |

i wonder if a waste gate from another KKK turbo could be made to work with the 931 turbo? like maybe the one off a 944 turbo. _________________ '82 931

not sure why one would opt for the windblown system on a 931 when the factory system performs well and is well integrated. that would be tits on an N/A though. what i need to do is find a place that rebuilds k26s or sells rebuilt k26s for the 931 series. any ideas? _________________ '82 931

the 4 bolt pattern of the windblown manifold ,would give the option of using other turbo,s , more available ,better boost or cheaper . just something to consider . |

I am sure this has been discussed before but how ill would it be to get a machine shop to make a 3 to 4 bolt adapter? would the adpater just simply fail. I have no clue but it seems if people can make kits that can adapt a v8 in a 924 then someone could make a adpater to fix the 3 bolt problem. _________________ '82 931

would be easier to have a set of turbo headers with a 4 bolt flange and a new turbo _________________ 3 928s, |
