the post about the SRT-4 reminded me of this startling new bit of information and i was just wondering what everyone thinks of it . . .

apparently subaru has decided to give the US version of the WRX STi an extra .5 liter of displacement to bring the car to a solid 300 hp (a strong selling point over the mitsu evolution VIII). on the other hand, this takes away from the world rally championship spirit of the car by abandoning the 2.0 liter displacement rule. also, they've redesigned the front of the WRX (an improvement IMHO).

now i know many of you are WRC followers thanks to speedvision. so, how do you feel about subaru's decision(s)?

It still carries the rally spirit, and hey, if they want to give us some more discplacement to whoop mitsubishi's a$$ in the US market, i say let them do it. The emission standards here are too strict to have a high performance 2.0 liter putting out 300hp, so i guess Subaru didnt want the US to feel left out from their little power game.

I don't like those STis, I'd say real rallying is Audi S1 (Sportquattro).
