|
|
Hi All,
My starter / alternator wiring loom is toast, literally, and I want to make a new one. I'm trying to reverse engineer it from the connector, to the starter / alternator.
The factory red wire from the connector seems very thin and (I assume) feeds both the starter and alternator - splitting into 2 wires.
| Code: |
/------------------------- Starter?
Connector (red) -------------
\------------------------\ Alternator?
\-----------------------/ (2 wired joined together) |
Excuse my rubbish drawing above, it's trying to show how I think the red wires are spliced together. There is also a black wire going the starter and another going to the alternator.
Does anyone know which red goes to the alternator? is it the 2 red wires joined together.
The red wire from the factory connector seems a bit small (see pics) - but any bigger probably wouldn't fit the factor connector.

Does anyone have a diagram on how this loom is made and which wires connect to what connection on the alternator and starter, or has made their own loom? Also, how is the alternator and starter earthed, there is what looks like an sort earth strap on my engine by the alternator.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
(Sorry for all the questions, I got my 924 without and engine and the wiring in pieces so just trying to figure out how it all goes back together)
Thanks

Hi,
What year 924? Turbo or NA?
I replaced that wiring harness in my car which has a 1980 turbo engine and wiring harness. Kroon wiring harness makes then. Not sure what they have for 924 NA. From the emails I get from them, they are willing to recreate a wiring harness if you send the the originally.

Anyway, I have the older wiring sitting on the shelf. Turns out there was nothing wrong with it. Happy to take pics if that would be helpful though again this one is for an S1 turbo.
One other note, when messing with the starter wiring, be sure your car is in neutral and the battery is disconnected. _________________ 1981 Porsche 931 w/S1 engine & euro g31 transaxle. Water-cooled intercooler |
