Hello everyone,
I've been working on my steering rack lately and after painting it I started reassembling it, but ran into problems pretty quickly.
Stupidly I did not measure/count the treads when taking of the inner tie rods as I saw in the hayes manual that there was a distance to be mesured from the tie rod to the steering rack that determinds the location of the tie rod. After some closer reading I've not been able to figure out from and to where I sould mesure.
the manual says to center the steering rack with a tool that you can make form a bolt, which I've done, and then measure from the inboard ridge on the stop ring and the outboard edge of the steering housing. The problem is that my steering rack does not have a stop ring. From what I have been able to find is that not all steering racks have a stop ring, but where should I measure form then?
Could anyone please help me locate the right measurement points? I've included some pictures above so that the measurement points are clear.
If it helps, my car is a 1979(1980 model year) 924.
