Hello, I am currently rebuilding a 1977 924 to use as a daily driver. Someone cut the battery wiring off and left a huge mess for me to figure out. How is the starter wired in? I cant seem to find the starter relay, so I can't really trace the wiring. What does the look on the passenger side that plugs in by the battery box go to? I'm missing that loom, so I'm wondering if it's for the starter. Thanks

Yup, your questions all basically have the same answer!

There should be a heavy gauge wire direct from the positive terminal to the starter; this can actually be bought new at any local auto parts store.

The starter relay is on the starter itself - there's that mystery solved.

The remaining bit missing I think you're referring to, a 3-pin connector at the firewall by the back of the head near the battery. This goes to the starter and alternator. One lead is to activate the starter (termanal #50 IIRC), another to energize the alternator (from the alternator bulb on the dash), and finally one to bring 12V back from the starter - when the starter's being run - back to the ignition coil to bypass the ballast resistor(s) for a hotter spark when cranking.

The entire affair should be in a heat-protective fiberglass sleeve to protect it from the exhaust manifold, and is secured down the firewall.
