Replacing my sunroof seal around the lift out panel did not go well. The first attempt had a squishy bulge hanging out all round on the roof and the panel would not seat down. Catches broke when I tried to lever it into place. So I never opened the roof. Over the next few years, the foam cylinder exposed on the roof gradually separated from the rest of the seal. Fortunately the car was usually garaged. Then I ordered another seal and sent it back because it looked identical to the one that did not fit. I next obtained a third seal from another supplier and it looked the same as the other two. So I spent a bit of time on line and found a fitting guide on a 944 site. Guess what - I had been fitting the seal the wrong way round - the soft squishy bead goes on the inside and the hard lip seals around the external perimeter of the sunroof. What had led to my misunderstanding was that the home made seal which was fitted when I bought the car had been cobbled together from a rubber u-section and a foam strip glued together.
