unfortunately I'm a bit busy with a job that pays money.
Let's not forget how much we pay to use this facility. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

ofcourse, with all due respects.
now'a'days PayPal allowes us(or some of us) to send funds around from the confort of our homes with just some clicking involved. when you have time, lets upgrade/update even if it costs us a bit. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

I'll chip in a few bucks if it helps Peter. Also, would love to know if there is a back up of the site, in case the server craters, where it could be recovered. I'd chip in for that too! Would be disappointing to loose all this collective knowledge. _________________ "Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you are goin' all the way."

My guess is that time, not money, is the issue for Peter.
Also, the session errors that were likely occurring may not be cured at all by a new software version, as they are likely the result of nefarious activity by bots, crawlers, and perhaps even more sinister sources...
...but it would be interesting to know what the DR plan is for the site...it would be a travesty indeed to lose the collective knowledge here... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

sorry, that was a bit harsh. Caught me at a bad moment.
As ideola says it's time not money that's the problem. I have some time off over the new year period so I'll look at an upgrade then.
And you can all sleep easy - the site is backed up every night and the backup is copied off-site. In the case of a total loss we would only lose a maximum of one days posts.
The site could be recreated on a new server in a day or two. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

My favorite thing about this site is the fact that it has changed very little over the years. Its familiar and has always worked fine for me. Other forums cant seem to stop changing. Mobile apps that dont work, pop up ads that you accidently hit when you scroll, slow page loading... a real advancement. I dont care to have updates every second. I drive a 30 year old car for a reason. Keep it up 924.org! Best forum on the net in my opinion. _________________ 87 924s

Yes, I agree! This board is my homepage. Is there somewhere where we can be kicking a few dollars to help cover some of the hosting costs? _________________ 78 924 |

thanks for the offers of help with the hosting costs. really appreciated.
The reality is that the hosting costs me nothing. It's one of many sites that a close friend has on his account with webfaction.com and it uses so few resources that he refuses to accept any money from me. I give him an occasional bottle of homemade vodka which he happily accepts.

Does anyone else get errors when trying to open the board lately?
I get the phpb sessions full error and just some text instead of the board. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

Yeah, we're getting hammered by search-engine bots over the last day or so.
They should calm down soon - I hope. |
