Well, that was fun...
I took the 931 down the st to walmart, about 2mi away. Got there Ok, went in for about 30min, came back out and started it. Im still having mixture issues So I got out and made some tweaks, engine has been running about about 2-3min get back in and just as im about to go I see a cloud comming from under the hood, get out and see coolant on the ground. ARGhhhh! Shut it off, I notice the Temp gauge is in the red.
Open the hood and I see the lower hose that comes out of the WP is pissing coolant.
Luckily it is 15F outside. A guy in a near by parked Semi Comes over we chat for about 5 minutes trying to figure what to do, he offers me tools, but theres no way im going to be able to fix it then and there, he goes to his truck and brings me a gallon of water, so I top off the Res. its still pouring out but its slowing. I turn the engine on to circulate the coolant, the temp is at the middle now.
I walk back into walmart, leave the hood open. I get some coolant and "hyperlube" coolant additive (figure I need all the help i can get) get back about 10min later and top it off as it has lost most of the coolant in the res in the mean time. I wait about 5 min and the temp gauge is now at the edge of the lowest mark.
So I go! I get about 1 mile, pull over and top of the Res again, I pass the last stop light before my house and it's slightly downhill, so I shut it off and coast the last 1/4mi
I really hope I didn't cause any harm, luckily I put some good synthetic oil recently (castrol edge 5w50), and it was cold out side, I also turned the secondary (A/C) fan on, and left the Res cap loose to help minimize pushing the coolant out. I checked the oil and it looked ok (no milk shake)
Is that bottom coolant hose the IN or OUT? _________________ It was either this or a giant box of legos |

The bottom hose is the "in"
Odds are it's OK, and nothing's hurt, just needs a new hose and a refill. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Just replace ALL of them. They are 40 years old. Few small ones are NLA and Ebay is only way if you are lucky. _________________ www.btrpalmbeach.com
