The machinist said that about 30-40% of the motors he puts together have this problem and he really prefers it that way as he can easily rework the thrust washer face to the clearance he wants. I've seen him working on everything from small turbo Audi/VW's to 12 cyl Caterpillar 12l stuff. |
Its well beyond my skills to cut a bearing apart and reweld them again...
Edit:
To illustrate the issue. No need to measure really but its about 0.3mm of slop and the old bearings are tight.

Really a bearing should fit 100% perfectly without any modifications, it it doesn't its junk, doesn't matter how well its designed if it cant be produced to specification.
There is no way to "correct" this other than jb-weld it in place and grind the crank to fit, but that is not a good option.
This is just the most visual flaw if you measure the thickness of the shells they vary over the shell specially near where the tang is pressed in.
If no one else has complained, I would assume that not a lot of them have been installed yet and if they have, probably just been slammed together without checking basic stuff . It'll wear in... no worries... _________________ /Magnus, Stockholm Sweden

Wow, I just looked at the UTube video That sideways slop is not acceptable and not fixable by trying to do something to the bearing. Customers should get their money back. _________________ 1979 924 NA race car
