I was just wondering after reading some infos about 924s about the years the cars were produced. It told me that 1977 models had chassinum 9247****** and had the last five digits as serial number for the year 1977, and they started at 00001-051** (can't remeber). And there was nothing about 1976 productions. Mine say 92461043**, and that would equal 1976 model, version 1 and serial number 43**. That would mean the number of it is within the (the book say) 77 model class. But is this car really a 1977 model then if all the books say it starts at 77 models? I would like to get that straight.

Cars appeared in the European Market a year before the US model cars. The US model cars started officially in 77, although 77 production cars were made in 76.
My first 924 was an early 77 US model, and the production date was 02/76.
I would guess that printed documentation for European model cars would show 76 models. Documentation for US cars would be for 77 and up. So if you are looking at US Websites, or parts suppliers in the US, the references would be to 77-82 since Series I 924 model years were officially imported between 77-82 for the US market (although 924 prodcution ran until model year 85 for other markets Japan, Italy, etc)). |
