My 924 is fairly clean und3r the hood but... cleaner is needed for car shows and it appears to be a daunting task.
First, what can I clean the "spotted" tired looking cast alum with? (No grease just age spots)
Second, there is some black dirt under the exhaust manifold on what I presume to be the "head", How do I get to that easily to clean?
Brings up another ? Is this engine a half of a v8?
Third, what tips do you have to share for this endeavor?

Brake cleaner and toothbrush is a nice combination to get stuff clean. Chrome polish paste can solve alot of problems aswell.

Any aluminum part that can be removed can be vapor honed back to original forging condition; i.e. looks brand new.

Look into dry ice cleaning. Works really well and won’t damage plastics or rubber.
