ok i'm a bit pissed and drunk but we cant get the 924 to start, the plugs are getting soaked in gas, the fuel pump is pumping too much gas and none to the injectors, whats up with that? I am really sick of working on it, does annyone hate the 924 sometimes? They look like nice cars but they are pieces of shit, i'm sorry if i offended anyone but I am so sick of trying to get it to start. Now i'm not getting any spark but i was before, what is up with that? The computer thingy on the drivers fender smells fried, i guess we fried it from trying to start it for 2 hours. NO SPARK NOW #### ! Well i'm going to get another computer thingy at a wrecking yard and hopefully it will have spark but probably wont start..........the wiring by the COIL seems #### up. I wish someone from this board could drive down to my place and help me because I am so frustarted i feel like starting the car on fire and rolling it off a cliff or into a river. first i would need to tow it. Sometimes i feel the 924 is a disgrace to the Porsche name, but who knows maybe all old porsches are messed up. OK sooooooo we will see what happens when i get the computer........dammit i need to win the lottery and buy a new 911 or boxster, anyone with me?

There are two types of Porsche folk, the 924 crowd and the rest. The former are broke most of the time but like tinkering and the latter tend to be rich and clean. That's it. Sorry.

man, I know how you feel.
If I won the lottery, I would have a 996, (or wait for the new Carerra), but I would also pay someone to fix my 924...

I would help you if you were anywhere near me... but nope.
The coil hook up is very important. You need the pulse to activate the fuel pump relay and thus get fuel. Also the connections at the distributor are of course very important.
I am very embarrassed to admit this but it took me months to figure out why my 924 was not starting..... came down to a loose connection at the hall effect connection on the outside of the distributor. Seems I was worried about the strength of the connection and did not snap the connector together completely. I finally came back to it and pushed it together and snap... hmmm that went on a bit more than before. I excitedly went to the ignition key... closed my eyes... said a little prayer... VAROOOMMM!!!!! Yeah!
Anyway... you need to trace those lines and make sure all is connected and in the right place.
Keep at it and take breaks... or you will go inside. I almost did!

Yes, if you are this pissed at a 924 you would be sticking pencils in your eyes with all the problems 928's have.

The 928's are more expensive (just spent $400 for a USED fuel tank) but they (older ones)aren't more complicated. I can change my 928 clutch without removing anything but the flywheel cover. 8^) The big problem is the clutch assembly costs about $1,600. 8^( The CIS operates the same on both cars. The elctrical is actually a little simpler on the 928 since each circuit has its own fuse (34 of them). The biggest drawback to the 928 is the parts. This was Porsches first clean sheet car and they reinvented the wheel every chance they got. Even the relays have 928 part numbers!
I will say that my 924 was the lowest cost per mile vehicle I have ever owned. And almost the funnest to drive.

how much would you sell one for, i'm curious.
I have been bidding on early 928's on ebay and they go way to high for me usually over 5 or 6 grand.

The ebay prices are a little low for a roadworthy early 928. NADA lists them at 6 to 16K based on condition. I realize NADA is the high end but I think it is a better indicator than ebay or excellence magazines data. BTW the average price on the early 928's have gone up in the last two years.
Concerning selling one of them. I'll have to pass at present. The US 5 speed is my daily driver so I couldn't get rid of it. I have too many hours and dollars invested in the euro AT to sell at the present. I consider it a work in progress.
