|
|
I'm trying to rebuild my distributor as I found pieces of spring rolling around inside. I can't seem to get the pickup to come off. I read some articles which don't go into this particular detail. I've removed the two lockrings and I've tried to pry off the coil, but it seems to want to bring the vacuum advance arm with it. I've noticed a 3rd lockring without the eyelets, but this seems to move with the coil and plate. Does anyone know if this needs to come off as well?
Thx |

Recently rebuild/restored/checked various Bosch Electrical Distributors and they will come apart easily (apart from the main axle) when you have the right tools. Haven't rebuild one like you are holding (US) from 1977, but shouldn't be much different apart from the points vs. copper coil thingy. _________________ Porsche 924 NA 1982 LY7A/A3A3 _ Greater driving pleasure never harmed anyone. |

IIRC there are three small screws holding the coil on from underneath. Yes, you have to remove the vac adv arm, circlip and the canister - 2 screws. The plate comes off with the coil, springs and counterweights are below.
There is a screw down the centre of the shaft, under the felt plug. If you wish to fully dismantle it to replace bushes or whatever, the pin holding the drive gear needs to be punched out and the gear removed before the shaft slides out the top. _________________ World`s quickest 924 2L slushbox

| Oh...I see now. I have to go underneath the distributor and stick a screwdriver in the holes there. I thought the holes were for ventilation or maybe drains if some moisture happened to get inside. Thx a million! |

No, sorry, you can`t access the screws from the bottom of dizzy, needs to be pulled out the top.
This one has been modified but its the same, quite simple really. Remove the 4 screws from around the body, holding vac canister and the cap clips. These also hold the main mounting plate, which has another plate above that holds the coil and rotates for vac adv. Undo the small circlip and unhook the vac unit. Remove the large circlipabove the reluctor (4 prong part) and carefully lift & prise upwards, watch out for the little locating pin. Then the plate can be romoved along with the coil. IIRC you need to rotate the plates to acess all the 3 screws. _________________ World`s quickest 924 2L slushbox

| Yeah. i had the wrong idea. I had removed all the screws, but I think things must have seized. Anyway, after struggling with the thing I finally gave up and ordered a rebuild online. Thanks for all your help ! |
