Hey everyone!

Got my first 924s over the weekend for an absolute steal. Playing around with the car and getting it back into shape, and also getting to know the car.

One peculiar thing with this car, which may just be how the car drives, is the sensitive throttle.

I don't know how to describe it - but every time I let off the throttle (if I'm in gear) the car "jerks" as if I hit the brake. Like the action of closing the throttle is causing the car to decelerate very quickly.

Another way to describe it would be like driving a Diesel truck with compression braking. You let off the throttle and the car starts to slow down - only it happens really abruptly.

It's almost like the throttle blade is closing too quickly and causes the car to lurch a little.

I may be over sensitive but it's very touchy. Perhaps there is a return spring or dampening spring that has weakend?

The car runs AWESOME otherwise so I'm inclined to think it's either a small mis-adjustment or it's just how the car drives.

Thanks!

My '88 Mercedes did that when the motor/transmission mounts, driveshaft flex disk and rear bushings were almost done if we're talking about same thing.

Basically the engine doesn't start slowing the car instantly but it still slows down by itself, the drivetrain "lives" everywhere it can when the engine slows down. Then when it finally doesn't have anywhere to live anymore, the speed difference between the motor and rear wheels is quite a lot, resulting in a "sharp"/"jerky"/"sudden" slowdown.

OK that's funny. The guy I bought it from said it might need motor mounts, mostly because there is a minor "clunk" occasionally when going into gear.

So funny enough, that may make sense but it would not have occurred to me.

How hard is a motor mount job?

Haven't done it to my Porsche, but was pretty easy on Mercedes. Basically i just put a plank under the oil pan and lifted the engine a bit and swapped the mount. There's a risk of breaking the pan by doing it that way, so if possible lift the engine properly.

Not difficult with an engine cradle, but the (proper) mounts are a bit pricey. Don't be tempted by cheap aftermarket on this....the won't last.

I have a lift at my house, read the pelican article seems like it should be pretty straightforward.

I understand the Myele ones are good from Pelican?

let's see how it goes!

Meyle 944 mounts are junk. Is strongly advise 951 units from Porsche, or you'll be doing it again.

Thanks Rasta. Sounds like you're in my neck of the woods!

Real Porsche motor mounts are going to approach what I paid for the car. LOL.

At this point, this is a very causal driver and so I may have to roll the dice on this.
