|

Hello All. I'm in the middle of replacing the power rack & pinion assembly on my 87' 924S with an A1 Cardone rebuilt assembly and have run into what I believe to be an improperly rebuilt unit. After insuring the wheels and steering wheel were centered the old rack was removed. A check of the centering dimple under the plug on the old rack verified the rack was indeed centered. Setting up the new rack involved me turning the steering pinion in order to place the dimple in the view port to insure the new rack was centered as well. What I observed is the pinion flat on the new rack assembly, (the flat place on the pinion where the bolt passes through the steering universal linkage), was now at least 30 degrees off from where it needed to be on the steering shaft linkage universal. Would I be correct in assuming the rack was incorrectly assembled by the re-builders? I've got pictures but haven't a clue on how to post them here. Any help would be appreciated. _________________ Rick |

I think I might just put it together and then straighten the steering wheel on the shaft. _________________ Toofah King Bad

You can either remove the top cover (if it doesn't have a tamper seal) where the shaft comes out & "clock" the shaft or do as rasta says & clock the steering wheel to correct it. There's no clock spring so there's no problem in doing that.
You can send the rack back & get another but you may end up with the same problem. |
