| I tested the leads at the fuel pump and no power at all, I thougt the relay could be bad but I tried a jumper lead from L13 to L14 with ignition on and still no juice to fuel pump. And by the way which wire is positive, the orangish right? And I suppose the black one is ground? |

The brown wire is usually ground. Jumper pin 30 to 87 Red/Blue (pin 30) wire is 12Vdc from battery. Red/Black is pin 87 of relay and goes to pump. Black wire is pin 15 of relay and goes to pin 15 of distrubitor. Pin 1 of relay, the Green wire also goes to distrubitor, tach, etc. Pin 31 Brown goes to ground. Check the fuse and if the jumper works try grounding the brown wire.
Both of my problems were due to a bad ground wire.
The pin numbers are on the bottom of the relay.

yeah it's definitly electrical problem here. It's a 1978. When I bought the car they left a test light inside, guess they could never figure it out. The fuse panel is pulled out some and there are a couple loose wires a red and white one with plastic square on the end, I doubt it's these that's the problem. Straight above the fuse box I do see alot of brown wires running into body, I take it this is the ground spot. Now my fuel pump is working when I jump it with a wire and it continues to run and not shut off, I'm guessing the relay is bad or it's in the wiring. What's really strange is I am not seeming to get any power between the fuse panel and the wiring that runs along the firewall to the 7-pin connector next to the coil. There is a yellow wire with a red stripe that someone spliced into a black wire with red stripe, I don't know why they did that. I'm really surprised these older Porsche's have so much wiring it's a mess!
