|
|
Hi.
I have bought a 924 with upgraded brakes. It it fitted with 4-pot brembo/porsche calipers.
Since the car was not in running condition when i bought it, i had no chance to see that the speedometer was not working. After i put my head under the dash, i could see that there is actually no speedometer cable present.
Today i removed the break disk, and there is definitely also parts missing there.
Could someone help me with information about what parts i need to get a fully functional speedometer? |

Someone has made a very nice upgrade to your 924.
However what has obviously happened is that the spindles from a turbo/S2 944 have been used, and hopefully they may also have transferred the complete strut assembly.
It is not possible to easily fit Brembos onto the 924 spindle. The spacing of the caliper attachement holes in the 'ears' are different. Thus the easy way out is to simply transfer the complete spindle assembly, or better still, the complete strut assembly.
The 924 has a hole drilled through the spindle to take the speedo cable through the hub - a mechanical operation. The later 944 uses electrical speedo actuation.
Now, while it is possible to drill through the spindle to take a mechanical speedo drive (and I have done so), why would you? You would have to buy a new speedo cable, a hub cap with hole, and not forgetting the circlip which holds the speedo cable in place.
It is far easier to simply have your existing speedo guage reconfigured to take electrical pulses, or source an early 944 speedo. _________________ 80/81 932/8 ROW |

Early 944 speedo uses cable just like 924 one.
I drilled the spindle and it worked great, no issues. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Strangely enough i cant seem to find any pictures of how the speedometer wire should be connected to\inn the hub.
If i decide to drill through the spindle, is there somewhere i can buy all the parts needed to get it working? (Cable, hub cap, circlip, rubber)
Is there any known write up on how to reconfigure the speedo so it can read electrical pulses?
These are some some pictures i have taken, after removing the brake disc. Is the hole for a speedo wire, or a hall sensor?

Your two options are drilling a hole through the spindle and cutting a square hole in the hub cap to accommodate the cable, or using a GPS speedometer.
I would recommend a machinist for drilling unless you have a high level of fabrication skill. The modification requires drilling two holes at different angles and having them meet in the right place. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Exactly. You need to drill one hole from the outer side, the length of this is determined by the projected end point of the hole you should drill from the inner side, there should be a collar where the hole is originally. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp
