So I just picked up a 924 for $250 with a nice interior but has lots of rust so I'm looking for fenders. Anyways it's a 87 924, It would help greatly if anybody knew what calipers, rotors (drilled and slotted), brake lines, pads, lug nuts work the best and where to buy them from. Also if anyone has a clutch that's in good condition I am in need of a new clutch.

A rusty 924S in NM? Yikes!

I would put attention first on front engine service. . .belts, rollers, water pump. Then test drive after a hydraulic flush and maybe fresh hoses (four brake, one clutch). I've seen horrible looking calipers on these cars work just fine after giving them a good stomp.

I have a nearly new clutch disc but unknown condition PP.

Yo, NM, do the engine first. I just got done resurrecting one of these cars and there's no point in doing anything else until you know the engine works.

Since the chassis and body are galvanized on the 924 from 79-up, I'd say someone screwed the pooch on your car someplace. The only common place to rust is the battery tray due to plugged drains and leaking batteries and all 924's and 944's suffer from it (guess they didn't learn from the 914, heh.) Otherwise they don't tend to rust.

I second and third the recommendation to do the FOES (Front Of Engine Service) before you lose valves, or worse, due to a broken timing belt.

To answer your original question, the 87 924 would be a 924S and is the same as an early 944 for most parts. Which is why the FOES is so important.

I wouldn't bother with drilled rotors they reduce the thermal mass of the braking system and can lead to cracked rotors or just a reduction in brake system effectiveness. Hit up rockauto.com and order some basic rotors (they all come from the same factories, just pay attention to brake bedding techniques and you'll be fine). If you're planning on doing track days or racing then an aggressive set of pads and maybe slotted rotors to help keep the pads clean would be a good idea.

To get an idea of some basic modifications

FOES would be what I would start with but that engine is coming out so I don't really care about trying to fix anything that could potentially be bad but thank you for the reply's I'm glad to see this forum is so active

Before you put the new engine in, go ahead and replace the rod bearings, the seals, belts and hoses. So much nicer to do this outside of the engine bay.

I'd go with a bigger engine:

<-- seen that car in person, its very well done

or something with a little blow:

Both swaps have been done in the 924S body and it makes a hell of a sleeper.

For example: http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=36902

I'm curious if a cam would make much of a difference on the NA 2.5? I haven't heard either way, I might do a little research on that just because I'm curious.

Not many people spend much money on the 2.5 since they are either racing it so they have rules limiting their changes or they are looking to swap in a V8 or a turbo motor.

Yeah and the interior is really good. There are some flaws like hatch doesn't open, rip in drivers seat, all uprgraded speakers but missing drivers speaker. I'm just happy that the gauge cluster and all lights and blinkers work. Not to excited about the rust though and the last guy cut the exhaust in one place so it's loud when running
