Hey,
I'm kinda stuck with my old seats at the moment. However i found some really nice seatcovers and fixed the worn spots on the seats. Is it possible to put harnesses on the stock seats? How comfortable are they compared to the stock belts? How many points? Homemade harnessbar or an aftermarket one?
I think I probably buy Corbeau belts if any brand...3-4 point bolt in. Get the harness pads as well...
Thanks!

What's your plan?
First of all, for sources - go to Racer Wholesale - you can easily get TRW Sabelt webbing for less, very nice stuff, even camlocks.
http://www.racerwholesale.com
6-pt camlocks for $120:
http://www.racerwholesale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RW&Product_Code=TRW-C5600&Category_Code=Harnesses
I recommend getting the type with bolt-in ends, at least on the lap and sub belts.
Again, what are you using it for? These suck for street use, you can't move around. Wonderful for track or autox usage. Keep the stock belts for the street.
Get 6-point; they flex less than 5 point, will protect you better in a serious incident. Don't get a 4-point, they're useless and are often not allowed by sanctioning bodies - you need the submarine strap.
Harness bar - don't. The shoulder harnesses should be attached to a rollbar. Don't have a rollbar? Use the stock belts. Harness bars are not up to snuff and can and will bend in an accident, except for the Brey-Krause bars (which, last I heard, are only for 911's).
One more problem with using competition belts - you should have holes in the seat back to pass the shoulder straps through - these locate the straps relative to your shoulders. If you use the stock seat, some people have made or bought (don't know where) a rig that will keep the shoulder straps from sliding down and off the shoulders.
I also don't like the idea of not using a competition seat, since a stock seat (excepting perhaps sport seats) will allow you to slide sideways (belts will not prevent this), allowing you to become improperly positioned to the belts, potentially worsening any damage when you hit something in an incident.
Lap and sub belts (using a 6-pt harness) are mounted concurrently at the stock reinforced harness mounting points on the tunnel and outer rail, either side of the seat. You just have to get new, longer bolts. It's actually an SAE fine-thread bolt, not metric. just make sure, when you go to the hardware store, to get Grade 8 bolts.
I've heard harness pads are nice; I personally don't use them anyway, since I've already got 3 layers of nomex and 1 of cotton for padding.

Hey,
I have no "plan"...New seats, rails, and harnesses cost atleast 700+ bucks(new)... It's senior year. Lol
I could put a 1 inch dia. Steel tube from the backseat head rest mounts... then attach the harness of my choice to it...that'd be the alternative to just giving up on harnesses which I'm probably going to do...:-| I think for now I'm going to order harness pads from Corbeau Seating and wash my stock belts up.

I have RJS belts in my racecar - though not in pink! They're a local to Detroit company. However, floor-mounted belts (for the shoulder belts are not such a good idea - they allow way too much stretch in an impact to save your butt. This is why they're not legal in any road-racing application.
It's like the helmet question - how much is your butt worth to you, price your safety gear accordingly. I have a $450 Bell helmet, $500 OMP race suit, plus another $200 worth of nomex underwear, gloves, and booties, a $600 fire system, a $2000 cage, $200 quick-release steering wheel, $140 6-point harness, and still don't have enough safety equipment.
