Hi all, been a reader for long time but not posted before.
I'm in the early stages of planning a build of a 933 engine with turbo head on an NA.
Had a look through lots of reading material but can't find the specs for the valve sizes on the 933 head. Anyone know if they standard size turbo or larger?

Rob

I built a fairly mild NA engine with a standard turbo head and a 30/70 cam from paeco and 11:1 comp. On 98 octane fuel it puts 130hp at the rears

Thanks Harm. I've looked at quite a few pictures of heads but still can't quite work out if they are any different to standard. I may need to take some measurements of my head when it arrives to try and compare them to pictures.

Hi Daniel, have you got any more details on your build?
What pistons did you use- I'm looking at getting custom but did you use an off the shelf set?
Did you have any problems with detonation with 11:1 comp?
What did you use for injection- was it the standard CIS? I'm planning a full engine management for injection and ignition and using individual throttle bodies.

Sorry for all the questions

Pistons were made by venolia. I purchased them from someone on this board who said they would work, but they required extensive machining. Probably would have been cheaper to get custom made pistons, there not so expensive any more.
At 30deg ign timing, no problems at all. Wind the dizzy up though and you'll have trouble.

Yes stock standard CIS. It is a very good and tunable system when working as Bosch intended.

I have a hard copy of the "Spare Parts Catalog TYP 924 SCCA Modell 1979". According to it, the part numbers are as follows:
intake valve: 931.105.401.03
exhaust valve: 931.105.406.03

The 931 part numbers a suffix of .02, consequently, we cannot glean from this information what the specs were of the valves used in the DProd. But since they have 931 part numbers, it's probably safe to assume that the head diameters were at least as large as the 931 valves, which may be sufficient for your purposes.

Some other interesting things of note from that section of the catalog:

camshaft: 931.105.119.00
Standard 931 cam part number is 931.105.021.01. From what I've seen of photos of some historic parts that have surfaced over the years, I think it's also safe to assume that the DProd cam had a dramatically different profile than either the 924 NA or the standard 931.

cylinder head: 933.104.302.50
Based on a 931 casting (rather than the NA), but who knows how the ports or valves or seats were configured.

cam follower: 924.093.060.00
cam caps (lash caps): 901.105.335.00 thru .34 (available sizes from 1.50mm to 3.20mm)
From this we can glean that the lifters were of a solid design using shims. The shims appear to be standard 911 parts that might actually still be available. I have not yet been able to determine if the solid lifters are available.

There was also a 933-unique cam belt cover that appears to have the lower guard removed!

Thanks for that Dan. Where did you get the spare parts catalogue from?
Any chance of a scanned copy?
I've seen some pictures of some pretty wild cams from the D Prod- I'll be going for something a bit milder as want to be able to use my car on the road.
I've got some solid lifters already so that side of things is sorted.
Once the head arrives I'm sure I'll putting an order into yourself for some parts

I think the lower part of the cam belt cover was removed to accommodate the dry sump pump.
