|
|
hey everyone-
I was getting ready to install my new walbro fuel pump when I found that it may need an adapter - the end with the check valve is set up for what appears to be some type of banjo fitting.
I did not want to cut the hose a refit a banjo connection and wondered if anyone else had run into a similar bump in the road as this?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Do a search for Bosch 1587010004
I think that's what you need.

thanks Shawn
I had already bought a bosch check valve from before #1587010004 which visually looks to be the same as what I had taken off. the walbro pump has a more narrow fine thread with a longer connection for a banjo type connection. It is the one on Ideola's Garage. The hose on the vehicle now does not have a banjo connection.
I may try a series of adapters or an adapter to a banjo connection then put a bolt on top. I did not want to have so many connections, but I may to get this done and on the road. Another option may be to cut off the current connection and use a fuel injection clamp with a banjo (-6?) and go from there.
I thought this might be easier - ha ha
thanks

I've recently discovered that the Walbro GCL604-1 pump kit is for the 931, and the Walbro GCL608-1 pump kit is for the NAs with the banjo fitting.
The pump is identical in each kit. The only difference is the bundled install kit, which has the correct fittings for the Turbo vs. the NA. Oddly, the Walbro catalog lists both pumps as being applicable for both platforms, so it took some trial and error to figure out that we need the 608 kit for those of you with the NA.
Sean, I have a couple of 608s on the way to my shop now. As soon as they arrive, I can take the fitting kit and ship it to you. Be sure to keep the 931 fitting kit you got with your pump so you can send it back to me. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I still have everything - I am glad you have the correct connections. Both I and the people at Summit were having some difficulty with adapters for those.
Any idea on how soon you might be getting those - my wife AKA Boss is giving me a hard time about the interesting fumes in the garage
Thanks again -I will get the other connections ready to mail back to you.

almost forgot - this new fitting is not a banjo style fitting -is it?
the hose connection I have now has a straight hose connection that the check valve was attached to (m14x1.5 on one end and m12 x 1.5 on the other) I believe the connection to the walbro is 10 x 1.0 on the end to the accumulator. _________________ 1979 924 n/a

found this adapter on ebay and it seems like it will fit the connections
Fuel Pump Fitting 12mm Female 3041 Walbro gsl392 Replacement Inline 255
I did not see any others on ebay, but if you can find one at a walbro dealer the part # should work if you have the straight connection to the fuel pump and want to use the walbro pump that has a banjo connection, this should allow you to use the stock check valve
hope this helps _________________ 1979 924 n/a

Sean
That is very interesting, because that looks identical to the adapter that comes in the 608 pump kit. I had another customer that I sent the 608 kit to, and he said that adapter wouldn't work, but I have not been able to ascertain why.
Would it be possible for you to snap a pic of the complete Walbro setup installed in your car???? If you could post it here or send it to me via email, that would be really helpful.

I was going to put it all together then attach it to the car, so I will take a picture before putting it on - it will take about a week or so (hopefully less)as I am recovering from surgery. I had received the part Wed. it has a 10x1.0 fitting for the pump side and a 12 x 1.5 for the female side - which fits the check valve non - pressure tested at this point though.

Hey Sean, did you ever figure this out?
I installed the exact setup in my '79 NA (Walbro pump, check valve fitting from old pump, new 608 fitting).
After install there is no fuel flow up to firewall, but haven't checked the line out of the pump to confirm no fuel from pump, but it sure is running. Just need to let the fumes clear out of my head first :-/
Did you get fuel flow?

Make sure this is functioning correctly too, as one of your tests. You also need to ensure that there are no blockages between the pump and the filter, which could include any one of the multiple sections of line, as well as the accumulator(s). _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

yes everything is working fine - started and ran as it did before.--the check valve that I used is a replacement for the original. I had to use an adapter to get it to fit, but besides that, everything seems ok
the only thing that I have not checked yet is the fuel pressure to see what the exact readings are
check the check valve like Dan said, I thought I remember reading somewhere here that someone blew low pressure air from the filter connection back to the pump connection to make sure the line was clear - just be careful and give yourself plenty of ventilation.
