How many different front sway bar options do we have for the 924? Pictures please.

On my 6 cylinder project, I can't use the original 1976 sway bar, that sits just under the bodywork. I have modified the oil pan on the engine, so the sump is in front of the cross member. The reason I did that, is I don't like to have the sump at the rear, and the pump in the front. The pickup tube is very long then. But there seems to be problems having a sway bar now.

I haven't installed anything, but I have a feeling there is going to be problems.

I'm a little in doubt if a 944 sway bar will fit.

I would to know if I have to modify the oil pan even further, or there are possibilities of building a "franken" sway bar, that will fit my old A-arms

I'm going into this knowing very little about the options available to you, but if I were you I would opt towards having one custom-made instead of building some kind of frankenstein sway bar. I'd have a hard time believing that some kind of welded-together monstrosity could ever really provide the same advantages as a proper sway bar

Would need pics of your install to see what you're working with.

The late style bar that mounts close to the a-arms and has the center braces that drop down could be an option for you. late 944/951 style (I think?)

Hmm, yeah, the late style sway bar, which is dropped down from the bodywork, on braces, would probably be the (only ?) solution.

I haven't installed the engine with the modified oil pan in the car yet, but by taking some measurements, it looks like I'm in trouble. Actually I don't even think that the 944 sway bar will fit. From the centre of the crank shaft, to the bottom of the oil pan, I have 20 cm (7.9 inch)

In front of the oil pan, is too far away, and behind there is no room for a sway bar. And if it has to be under the oil pan, it is too close to the ground.

So this evening I decided to cut up the oil pan and modify it, so the sump is placed behind the cross member.

Here is how it looked, after I had just finished modifying the oil pan a few days ago.

Now I have cut the sump away, and it will be moved to the back of the engine.

Then there will be room for the 944 sway bar.

More pictures will follow in my straight 6 build thread.

I mean, wouldn't the steering rack be in the way too if the sump is in front of the crossmember?

From the measurements I have taken, there should be around 1/2 inch of space, on the closest point. The straight 6 engine is quite long. When I made this oil pan, I was focused on having a short pickup tube and forgot that there also should be room for a sway bar.

My plan is to run the first tests trips without a sway bar. The main focus on the project, is to get the engine and drivetrain to work properly. Then comes the suspension. I guess that's the reason why I didn't think much about the sway bar.
