my radio now comes through from the door speakers (cleaned the contacts, what a difference), but it still does what it always did. After about 45 minutes, it just turns off. Anyone else have this problem or know how to PD it?

Possibly your radio has a thermal shutoff. If so, some things that could cause it to overheat would be speakers with a too low impedance and playing it too loud, maybe an incorrectly configured system.. External amp not wired correctly...
I should add incorrect voltage to the radio as another possible cause.

It is a Porsche time to distance thing. The radio cuts out because you are driving too slow. If You would have driven faster the radio would not conked out.
45 min drive takes you 46 min it will cut out.
same drive done in 44 min and the radio will be fine.
It is the same with flats. Get home before it goes completely flat and then fix it. If it goes flat on the road most people complain.
