i know that im posting on a 924 specific board so the feed back maybe obvious but back in high school i used to own a 1977.5 porsche 924. and after watching a wheeler dealer episode featuring a 924 it made me want to get one again. what i miss most about the 924 was the "go-kart" feel of it. and its seems that the 944 in most regards is a superior car, but because it weighs another 300-400 lbs more does it sacrifice that feel im looking for? why have you guys bought a 924 instead of a 944? and yes i have done tons of searching, but maybe i havent found the right sticky that answers my question

and yes i know this is a totally subjective opinion, but its interesting that there seems to be quite a following for the 924. maybe the best balance is the 924s with 944 power but with 924 weight.

also, if anyone knows of a yellow 1977.5 924 in michigan its mine and i might want it back lol

Do you mind me asking a few questions:

1. how old are you now?
2. what is your daily driver?
3. how much spare time do you have?

That would be a good start. It's quite possible that the passing years and advances in everyday cars would make a stock 924 seem dated to you now. Noisy, slow, hideous roll angles, unreliable... But if you are after fun and top class handling and precision then you won't be disappointed.

Having owned both a '77 924 and a couple of '83 944s, I would opine that the tight steering is there in both cars as long as the rack is manual steering. I hate power steering, but that's just me.

The simplicity of the early 924 makes it much easier to diagnose and repair, as well as more affordable, since many parts are from the VW bins.

I'm helping my son to put a '79 924 back on the road and it's been great fun, as well as bringing back some fond memories.
We just replaced the rear brakes and wheel cylinders. I bought everything from a local VW repair shop where I used to work.

well im 31, i have a few daily drivers, a 2002 truck, and a 2000 subaru 2.5 rs thats been turned into a rally car, and i have a 2002 maserati coupe gt but im selling that soon. and my time available varies. but im single with no kids so relatively i have tons of time lol.

i have no problem and totally expect a possible break down every now and then, im ready for that.

and in a few days im going to test drive an 87 944 turbo, and then im going to try to find a 924 and take it around the block just to see if im remembering everything correctly.

and i do agree with the lack of power steering feel, and thats what im going for. i will always prefer handling over power, and especially in this car. im just curious how far away from that feel a 944 is, and maybe there are some specific years that feel more disconnected then others. just to prove a point, a few years ago i went to a superbike school with my 125cc 2 stroke aprilia with the best tires i could buy and even though on every single straight away the liter bikes would fly by me i could still easily catch up to them on every corner. thats what i like.

944 automatic? Try if for the handling, but a 5-speed is much more fun!

You're located in one of the 924 hives there in MI, with Dan and Vaughn not far away.
