Just starting here, anyway here's my question for the crowd. I have a 1979 Porsche 924, which I have been upgrading with new headers, replaced the ignition box with a Crane laser box associated with the stock distributor. I have installed new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc. and the car runs quite well, however, I cannot "set the timing" to it's required mark. ie it 'moves' or is unsteady. After removing the Dizzy, I have noticed a very small amount of rotational 'play' counterclockwise. The normal clockwise rotation for the advance appears normal.
Has anyone come across this problem? And, is it possible to 'set the timing" so it doesn't bounce around?
Thanks, turbo6go@pacbell.net, Fresno, Ca. |

Does your car have the idle stabilizer? You have to deal with it, if it does. _________________ Race car: my favourite palindrome.

Welcome!
I think you need to unplug the vacuum line to the distributor to stabilize the timing. Or use a dial-back timing light to compensate for the idle.
What does the Crane box provide you? Can you alter the timing curve at all? Just curious.
Feel free to post pics/video of your car, we love toofah pron around here _________________ Stefan
