First post on this forum so Hello everyone! First off, I used to be a euro junkie, buying every cheap Alfa, Fiat spider, Merc, or british roadster I could get my hands on. I was scared of Porsche and have never had air cooled engine money. A couple of friends with 944's and a neighbor with a 928 that caught on fire twice didn't help. I went through a Jaguar phase and still have three. Eventually I went back to the only american cars I truly love, corvettes. I started doing some research on the early 924 cars and then found this forum. From all of my reading it was jaw dropping to know a car this cool was pretty inexpensive to purchase and maintenance looks to be no worse than a vette. Parts availability seems to be ok as well.
Now I've go the fever for an early 924. Some years ago I saw them everywhere and people were almost giving away drivers. I'm in South Carolina and trying to sell some other stuff to build a cash supply but I can't even find a single one close to me. Did you guys buy them all already?
I've read a lot of advice on what to look for but if anyone has any sage advice to add to the "buyers guides" I've read, please do.
Also, besides ths forum and craigslist is there somewhere else I should be looking in the southeast for one?
Lastly, (I know it's subjective) but what is a reasonable current going price for a late 70's 924 n/a in average daily driver condition?
Thanks much for reading my long and rambling post. I guess I'm a little over-excited to get into these cars. |

They are out there...just look around. Visit our for sale section, some members have some really great cars for sale...like this one for example:

Most of the heavly molested, especially in the US unfortunately for you. So good runners seem harder to find.
I have a vague feeling the 924 will be cheap cheap cheap and then the prices will skyrocket in the moment people realize that there arent many left. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

This is not likely to help, much, but I'm pretty sure prices have bottomed out in Au. I got mine for just over $6k and I haven't seen them for cheaper than that since (unless it was in pieces).

I admit, I think prices are starting to rise here in Canada as well. I got a good price on mine last year (thank you 76-924). But from what people are trying to get for tired, worn out examples I cant count on all my fingers and toes! There were multiple times while I was searching around that people wanted $750 and more for rusty, non-runners with frozen seat rails. My girl friend was always shocked when I walked away laughing at the seller. _________________ Cheers;

| Thanks so much for the replies, guys. Looking nationally I do see a handfull of decent looking cars for sale but within my travelling distance (southeast US) there are a few parts cars and one or two that might make drivers with a little work. I used to see driver quality cars with little or no rust for $1-2k quite often. Sometimes they may have needed some paint or had a small dent here or there but were good runners and now I just can't seem to find them. I think as I build my cash reserve and sit on it something will pop up locally eventually. The virtue of patience is what I am lacking. |
