I have had my ’87 924S for almost two years but haven’t driven it more than 60-70 miles in any given day. Probably have around 1000 miles on it this season. I am thinking about running it down the interstate to a football game at Iowa State next weekend. Would be around 400 mile roadtrip, all interstate (no cool mountain roads guys...it's Iowa). I don’t have much experience with 25 year old cars and wondering if anyone has thoughts on this.

BTW, car has 39K for miles, new tires last year and the cooling fans work well. I put in new sparkies a couple of weeks ago and she has more pep (old plugs were really corroded/gapped out!). I do have a spare DME relay in the glove compartment. Most of my concern is probably blowing a 25 year old hose or something.

I would daresay if you've never had problems with it, then it is pretty likely to give you a trouble-free run on the Interstate.

My 924 had oodles of little problems when I bought, all but one I discovered long after I drove it over 1000 miles home just after I bought it. It survived the trip with no incidents, testament to the robustness of the platform!

Wade.

Make sure the wife at home stays by the phone and has the other car with the tow strap all gassed up.

Make sure the wife stays home by the phone and has her car gassed up with a tow strap handy.

If you're worried about the hoses, change them. I'd call that wise maintenance, and fairly easy on a 2.5.

Otherwise, drive it.
