|
|
| Hello, I am seriously considering buying a 1987 924S. I noticed that the ac compressor pulley does not spin, the belt just rubs on it. Does this sound like an easy fix and what does it entail? Thanks in advance for the help from a potential first time Porsche owner. |

You'll need to either replace the A/C compressor or get an A/C delete kit. If the pulley isn't turning, eventually the friction will burn through the belt. Because the belt also turns the alternator, without the belt, the car won't run (very far...don't ask how I know). _________________ '87 924 S - No sunroof and a few modifications |

Are you certain it is actually not turning the pulley, rather than the clutch not engaging and the pulley is turning behind it. It can look like the pulley isn't turning if the clutch isn't engaging-- the front will stay still.
If the pulley is indeed seized with the belt running over it, you'd likely hear a screeching like four cats with their tails run over by a freight train and the stench of burning rubber. Wouldn't last long...
A clutch won't engage for a number of reaons including bad electricals, no R12 (refrigerant), bad clutch, etc. Much easier to fix with system in-situ than recovering the R12 (if any left), fixing the problem, then recharging. May not be worth it on these older cars... |
