I might be getting my hands on some brembos and spindles/rotors from an '88 951 and I have been reading up on the conversion things necessary, and new strut housings are required as I can see

but I am not that familiar with most suspension details, especially not 944 suspension, but how would I acquire this? isn't it true that the later 944 strut housing doesn't come off?

would I be able to buy struts for an 88 951 and have them fit in a 931?

I just see the fact that the strut housings are required but never a way to source them!

88 setup will have wrong suspension geometry for a narrow body toofah.

Not sure what you are asking, all struts "come off" but later 944 struts do not have a replaceable insert. In other words the shock absorber cartridge is not replaceable as it was in older cars.

yeah this is what i mean. for some reason in my head the cartridge became the same thing as strut housing

What I am saying is that the struts/spindles will bolt up, but because the assembly was designed to be matched up with a longer control arm from a "late offset" 944, the front end geometry won't be correct. Does this mean you couldn't obtain the correct alignment? Not sure. Ideola has done this I think with 968 parts, but I don't know how it came out.

On the insert issue, Joe is correct that the later struts were not designed to be rebuildable, but the enterprising folks over at Koni have designed replaceable inserts for late housings. . .some modification required.

Path of least resistance if you must have Brembos is to obtain these parts from an 86 951: struts, spindles, hubs, calipers for the front (no speedometer provision), and calipers for the rear.

thanks, I appreciate the clarification.

yesterday I did obtain the brembos for a pretty low price and the guy threw on spindles/hubs, so if I can make these work I will probably do so. either way its kind of a distant project since I'd like to finish engine work first.
