well, since my home state of Colorado is burning down, I think that the smoke is messing up the Ph of the rain (the little that we have gotten), and the rain oxidized my hood to hell wherever the rain sat for a long period of time. (poor car doesn't have a garage spot.) does this sound reasonable? cuz I have never seen water do that before.

naw...it's these little ugly whiteish/pinkish water spots... it's not ash...it won't wipe off with speed shine...

Living in NJ ive had my share of dealing with this from parking near bridges, stuff from NYC. Its hard to keep up with black gloss clear coat on my primary car, and keeping up with a boat that sits 5 days at a time too.

Use a good 'wax/polish' prep, like something from McGuires, then a good wax. Careful when you use the prep stuff, but go liberal on it. that should help, lots of elbow grease. then wax. check it under fluorescent lights, repeat as required. if its still bad id go to a detailer and they will be able to get the junk off by machining it with a buffer.

best of luck to you, i know how much of a pain in the a$$ it is... let us know how you make out.

ya. the problem is, it happened the day after I detailed it...GRRR!! but I will just save up the $3000.00 and have it repainted...or I could buy 3000 lotto tickets, and buy a new twin turbo and be happy...well, whatever....
