Hi team,
2 questions for you.
1) We have a '79 924 NA that we run with the 24 Hours of Lemons. Last event we snapped one of our font sway bar drop links. Upon post-mortem review, this was because the swaybar was binding against the body. The sway bar to body mounting consisted only of a bushing and a cup shaped bracket that mounts below it. But I'm suspecting we're actually missing a cup shaped 'spacer' if you will above that to keep the bar away from the body mounting. Can early owners confirm?
Anyone got a set available?
2) We need to replace the bushings in the rear snailshell shift selector rod. I know we have to drop the tranny, but how do you get the new bushings installed? Can you press out the center pin? Otherwise I son't see how to get the bushings inside the yolk
Thanks in advance.

I should have the sway-bar brackets you mentioned. I'll go take a look-see. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

I think posted my shiftlinkage rebuild in the How-To section.
Basically you pull the shifter linkage apart at the shifter, don't loose teh clips and plastic bushings.
Drop the 13mm conical bolt from the rear joint and pull the main shift rod out (a ratcheting box wrench makes this much less painful and you may not need to pull the transaxle).
Press the large pin out of the end of the shift rod to get the joint loose. I used a couple of sockets and a bench vise.
Bushings are installed from the inside of the joint, with the partial flange matching the inside of the joint.
Mount the joint on the end of the shifting rod and press the pin back in place.
Clean the threads on the knuckle and the bolt.
Reinstall the main shift rod, make sure it hits the bushing at the front before getting too crazy connecting everything underneath.
Connect the joint to the transaxle and use red loctite (and stainless safety wire if you have the technology) to hold the bolt in place. Connect the shifter to the rods and enjoy.
While you're in there, I believe there are bronze bushings available for that rear joint to firm up the shifting. On mine, I'll likely need to go this route as my knuckle wore out a little due to the lack of bushings and there is some slack. Also a short shifter is available, though some work with a lathe and a welder to locate the main rod further up the side of the is an alternative solution.
Hope this helps. _________________ Stefan

BTW, on my 79 the bushings fit into spots on the frame rail that hold them in place with essentially straps on the bottom that form a circle once they are tightened up.
On mine, the PO replaced the bars with Weltmeister adjustable units and then fitted a couple of hose clamps on either side of the polyurethane frame rail bushings to keep the bar from moving side to side and binding on the body. Might be something to look at once you get yours repaired.
I'll try to take some pictures later to show you how it looks. _________________ Stefan

ok - thank you both.
Stephan - I understand what you're describing with the hose clamps.
FYI - I tried to get the bronze bushings from Ideola a while back, but I think they were discontinued. _________________ paluck(at)hotmail.com

Also Grenadiers or anyone else - I'm also in the market for front swaybar droplinks if anyone has a set. Mine have been compromised due to my swaybar binding issues.
Let me know if you have them and cost to ship to 94805 _________________ paluck(at)hotmail.com

I have several of the sway bar brackets, but for 931 sized sway bars. I have one set still on the '77 martini which is a bit smaller. Not sure what your '79 has on it. Have a set of either the 931 or 924 drop links, too lazy to measure sway bar thicknesses from each set. _________________ '83 944 Track car.
