This car is a mess. I got it running but barely. I think the timing is off. It wont take gas when it warms up. It sputters and spits through the air horn. I cannot find a timing plate. there is a v in the crank pulley but nothing to reference it to. I adjusted a nut with a set screw in the fuel distributor thinking this was the mixture control. It must be because it ran better but not good enough to drive. I replaced the timing belt but followed the instructions that came with it and did not move any thing. I think the belt is on right but I am not sure. I need to get a manual but it appears that the Haynes is not that good so can someone recommend a good one. Any ideas on how to get this thing running would be appreciated. I like the car and want to restore it. The compression is good as well as the oil pressure. It does not run hot but has been really messed with as far as rigging and adapting. The wires under the dash have been fooled with and it is a rats nest. This car will take some work but I got it for the price of a tow so I'm not suffering yet. I just need some info and what to do next. I am looking at the hose diagram that was suggested and I will post the hose name I'm looking for when I find it. I put clamps on the one I made up and it seems to be working ok. hkj _________________ It ain't bragging if you've done it. 1982 924 turbo |

Buy a Bosch fuel system tester from Dam (Ideola) at Ideola's Garage. Almost for sure the warm up regulator is clogged. _________________ '80 924 Turbo - SOLD!

Haynes is the best manual there is for these cars, other than the official Porsche manuals, and is the one routinely recommended.
The How-To forum is reserved for posting instructions on how to perform maintenance or other tasks, not for asking questions (unless it's a discussion of the How-To). This is best asked in the 931 discussion area. _________________ 78 924 NA

Reading Assignment.
Wow. That felt good. Haven't done that in while!
Start with the above link. PM or post back if you have follow-up questions.
The Haynes manual isn't going to be very useful for the issues you're having because it doesn't adequately cover the late model 931. You would be better served to get a copy of the Factory Service Manual, but they're not easy to find and may end up costing you more than you paid for the car...
Good luck... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I read the reading and it was extremely helpful. They are right about the elbows they are cracked and hard to find. I have a Haynes manual coming but the fsm is a needle in a haystack. I though I found one on amazon but it was sold and they had not changed the listing. Ya'll gave me some good insight and I believe this car will run. The compression is ok and I have the timing right. I rebuilt cleaned the wru this past weekend. I may try to put the air tex pump back on because the filter was indeed mounted the wrong way. Thanks for the help and let me know if you think of anything else. H.K. Johnston _________________ It ain't bragging if you've done it. 1982 924 turbo |

The full set of factory service manuals is often available for about $100 on ebay. I've seen the 924 turbo supplement manual for $35 - $50. _________________ "Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you are goin' all the way."
