I have the std 14inch alloys fitted to my car
the tyres i have are rubbish cheapy ones installed by the previous owner.
I wan to fit a real good set and have been advised that Pirelli P6000 are good but they dont do my size 185/70 R14.

Any suggestions on what tyre to fit?

It depends on what kind of driving you do with it. Is it your daily driver or a weekend driver? Mine is my daily driver, so I put Yokohama Avid H4's on it, got them from Tire Rack. These are a harder compound tire because I do a lot of highway driving and need them to last a while. If it is your weekend driver, I would put Pirelli P4000's on it, they are a softer compound tire and will be stickier on the road. It just really depends on how you are driving it. Hope this helped.

High Performance Tires are hard to find in the higher profile 14 inch tires.

The tall sidewalls make it hard to design tires that will perform.

You could try switch to a lower profile, wider tire to keep the rolling radius the same, and avoid speedo error. Something like a 205/60/14. You can get the Dunlop A2 Sport ($64 each) or the Continental CH95 in that size ($61 each). These are mailorder prices. These are decent midgrade tires (I like the Dunlops better at this point).

Excuse my ignorance, but I thought if you changed the aspect ratio of the tyre/tire you would change the rolling radius. 'Splain it to me, o Learned One.

Decided to fit 185/70 R14H Marangoni Trio's to the back of my car and it seems to handle very well, only problem now is the front tyres are cheapy and grip less than the back.
