Hi Guys, I aquired a brand new 1983 2.5 engine for a 944 and it came with this gear box and A/C compressor.
The story goes like this, Porsche USA gave engines and gearboxes in the mid 80's to the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo AG department to let the students take them apart and re-assemble to learn about engines and such.
A local bought these at an auction about 10 years ago at Cal Poly and was going to do something with them but never did.
I got a call from the local independant Porsche parts seller (SGS Porsche, San Luis Obispo). They have helped sponsor my racing efforts with low cost parts and figured I may be interested in the engine since they got the first call from the seller.
I went over and saw the engine, gear box and A/C compressor. They had been stored in a shed and had some minor water damage.
I bought the engine for a friend and we had Jon Milledge go through it to replace gaskets and update for racing in 944Spec. The engine was all new but had been taken apart multiple times and some of the internal bolts were loose and bearings were scratched from improper handling.
Anyway it was a great find and that car runs very strong with a low compression engine. He is the only guy with a truly new engine.
Well now here is where I need the help. The gear box is not a normal 944 style.
The numbers on the front housing are 477 301 301 AC
Center housing 477 301 102 AA
Rear diff housing 477 301 101 A
There is a second number on the diff housing and that is 40 4379.0.00/01
Jon Milledge thinks this may be a 924 Turbo gear box.
The stub axles rotate in opposite directions when turned indicating an open diff I believe.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Is it of any value?
Thanks for any help.
Still trying to figure out how to post pics. _________________ 2010 NASA GTS-1 National Champion
