Is there a way to tell a 85 from an 85.5 by looking at it? There's an 85 944 on craig's list for 500 and I want it for a disk break conversion but it does say if its a 85 or 85.5

'85.5 = oval dashboard, early '85 = classic square dashboard

Wouldn't either one work for a 5-lug/disc brake conversion? The wheel offset didn't change until '87.

The wheel offset changed because of the ABS in '87 and I think the trailing arms changed in '85.5 because all the "How To"s for the 5 lug say be sure to get '85 and earlier. When I bought the parts for mine I got em off a '84 and everything just bolts right on no problem at all. Actually this weekend I'm going to finish bleeding it.

Hmmm, I didn't know they changed the trailing arms in mid '85. Interesting.

Anyway, yeah, the dash is the giveaway. If it looks like your 924, then it's an early 85. If it looks way more up-to-date then it's 85.5.

Just making sure I wasnt lying, yea they switched trailing arms and a-arms mid way through '85.

Also to OP I used this guide for the early parts of planning and sourcing parts for my upgrade, I recomend reading it.
