I need a head. There is one on ebay, part # 047 103 373. Mine is # 060 103 373. The former is off a '79 I believe. The latter I am not sure, maybe a '77. Fit, yes, no? Same except for valve size?

The part numbers cast onto the parts is not necessarily Porsche's Part Number that they stock the parts by.

Neither of the numbers that you posted are valid current, or old Porsche Part Numbers from what I can tell, so they must be casting numbers.

There are differences in the port size and shape, and the valve sizes. But any head from a 924 NA will bolt onto another 924 NA.

The earliest 924 cylinders seemed to develop the best power, and the latest heads probably cracked less often.

I have never owned a 924 with a smog pump, but the heads on the smog pump cars are probably different, and using one on a car that did not come with a smog pump would probably require some plugs.

If I had a 924 with small valves, I would definitely look into getting one with larger valves if I were replacing the head. If I were looking for a replacement head for my 81 (later 924), I would definitely look for an 80 or later head.

I have an early 77. When my head warped, I took it to an independant Porsche shop. I was told that the heads between the early 77 model and all of the later ones were not interchangable. He then hd the head baked and rebuilt, and cost me more money than I care to admit. My question is, was I lied to? Can any of the later heads work on an early 77 block? Has anyone acttually done this?

I just re-read an article by Jim Pasha in 1988 "Excellence" mag on 924 Engine hints and he specificaly states to use a later model head whenever doing performance work on a 1976-1977 1/2 924. He says use a 1980 1/2 or later head. It would seem, based on this info, that you were lied to.

Swell. I was 500 miles from home, in Sacramento. I could have come out of there with a more recent head with the larger valves. *&%#@!!!!!

The pistons are different so wouldn't the head be different? some of them have ears for the valves, and some of them are cups, with no ears...Anyone know? Are the later pinstons the ones with ears, and the earlier ones cups?

All 924NA engine are 2.0L, and the combustion chamber is in the piston on all 924NA engines.

All the product 924 NA engines had pistons with the cup on the pistons. This was/is the combustion chamber.

The valve size varies over the years, but the stock NA engine is never "interference" type, so there is no reason that the cylinder head from one year will not fit on the block of another.

For $700 you got ripped .

For a little over $900 you could have had your head rebuilt with big valves at eurorace. add another $300 - $350 for a new integral cam and ....
