The PO of this 924 had to be the worst mechanic/electrician on earth! Everything that is broken is currently being held together by a full tube of silicon, even the wiring! The wiring is so screwed up I have no idea what's going on and the diagrams are almost useless because at leats 45% of the wires are not original or the color is a mystery! I know I've said it before but this car will have to be completely rewired. I think that'll wait until I get the engine out, I'll just make things work the best I can until then. _________________ 81 924 N/A

I meant the design, actually. Well, mostly. Running demister power up the rear struts strikes me as one of the stranger design choices.
One or more of my POs futzed badly with a variety of small things, several electrical. For instance, they couldn't be arsed finding the right wire from the ignition switch to control the radio, so it's on all the time.

I've been fighting PO gremlins too. Wiring missing/wrong color/looped through circuits they shouldn't be, bypassed relays, ripped grommets, drilled holes, broken brackets ty-wrapped together. It's like they were armed with a pair of pliers, ty-wraps, and some duct tape and said "I can restore it" when they looked at the car. All of this on a 67,xxx mile car. Dumasses. _________________ '80 924 Turbo - SOLD!

From what i have found, one of the worst part of the wiring is the way all the grounds are connected. Even when nothing has been cut up there are still gremlins in the electricals. Most of which can be traced to the grounding.
I will be using terminal strips on mine to replace the factory ground connections. First, they spot weld a bottle cap like piece to the body with spade connectors on it. Besides the spot weld not being a good conductor, these pieces are not plated so they rust. And they connect most ground wires to these.
On my last 924, I cleaned each of the connectors and replaces the crimped terminals on the grounds and this cures most of the electrical problems. Unfortunately the ground terminals will rust again. |

Biggest problem is designing a battery tray as a water runoff catchment storage area....and then putting the fuse and relay board board directly underneath....galvanised steel doesnt like to be submerged. The pics i have will make people cringe im trying to spare people the imagery and not post them _________________ 1979 NA

In Australia I was able to purchase most of the wire with trace colours from a company called Auto Electrical Distributors. All were in 30 metre rolls and I went for the 4mm size. I have about 12 different rolls.
All connectors were purchased straight from porsche Brisbane. The spade connectors look gold plated
All connectors are about the same price or even cheaper than I have found at a Auto store.
