Am looking into getting polyurethane bushes for front control arms and rear A arms. Fronts are same as a VW Golf and rears from VW Superbeetle. Various manufacturers include Superpro, Prothane and Bugpack. Prices for these vary from about US$25 up for fronts and US$22 rears. Plus shipping, which is where the savings are made for quantities.

So far, Pocketscience and myself are in on this buy. Are any other Aussies interested?

Some suppliers only carry fronts and other rears, some both. Shipping charges vary greatly. An indication of numbers here will let me negotiate the best price with a firm shipping quote. Whatever, they will work out less expensive all up than buying locally.

i just bought my poly fronts not long ago....strange --the front A-arm ones on mine are one piece (with flange on both sides) im guessing the 2piece ones in the pic are easier to get on

I'd also be interested in poly replacements for:

Front sway main bushing: 477.411.313.H
Front sway drop links, upper: 477.411.041.B

I think Powerflex are the only ones who can supply both...

Cheers,

Jason @ Paragon claims they can get any and all sway bar bushings in poly or delrin, even though they aren't listed on their website.

Rog,

I can buy the fronts here in Portland at my local bug shop for $22. Let me know if you need my help in this.

Those sound like the superpro ones, blue are they?

Do you want any rear ones? Although they are red and may cause you to spin out since we all know red is faster.

They must be the stock size ones? Changed over to superpro ones IIRC, $20 at supercheap in many different diameters. They also have a saddle bracket available to suit, although the P ones will fit. Thought they will be good for the rears also as will make some mounting brackets if I ever get the bar thats been stuck at the Cypress Hotel for ages.

What size bar do you have? Will keep an eye out but mainly looking at VW supplies, but believe theyre similar.

Recall Paragon did have them listed at one time and they were really hard and solid (delrin). Stuck in my mind they were an outrageous price, thats why I`m after volksy bits.

Thats about the best price I`ve seen anyway, quite good. If theyre Prothane 22-201 RRP is $45. Another seller in MI that was same price made up on shipping charges.

Bugpack and EMPI (both VW aftermarket parts) make the rear ones, same as Superbeetle and ?? Can get them dirt cheap direct from EMPI but they have minimum order and only ship US. Are you or other US guys interested since for 6 sets or more they are close to $10 set?

Hey Rasta,
found these at a Portland supplier.

http://www.oregonmotorsports2000.com/servlet/the-45797/A-dsh-arm-pivot-bushings/Detail

Cheapest for rears. That Empi part# is a set of 4 bushes and 2 tube inserts to do both sides.Shipping is a rip and they don`t have the rabbit front bushes.

Not sure how big Portland is or how local, but you may be able to do a whip around the local VW shops and pick up both fronts and rears for the boys?

That says "a-arm pivot bushes" - you sure it's for the rears?

The Prothane Rabbit kit is around $20 and includes front and rear, both sides:

Pretty sure going by the websites that list them under rear suspension. Cant find which bookmark now, but one site had them alongside the bugpack # 6557, rear A arm bushes.

Stock Bug ones will work, just take out the stock 944 and replace with the stock bug one. I got mine from Empi 16-5122 urethane

Prothane # 22-201 fits A1 chassis FRONT CONTROL ARM. The front tube type inserts and the rear pin bushes under the clamp both on the FRONT control arm. Doesn`t include any rear suspension components as that is all VW Beetle.

In that link the guy has the 944 ALUMINUM rear arms, obviously different to our earlier pressed steel ones. So should fit Shaggy like a bush in a hole. Doesn`t Red, ya S, have ally arms?

I'm sorry, I meant both forward and rearward control arm bushes.

Looking at that thread, it seems our trailing arm mounting bolts might be different than the Bug parts. . .ours are M12. I would double check that before buying the bushings.

Here is a pic of the VW trailing arm bolt, giving a big ol' WTF?

BFY Parts.

Methinks those Type I bushes will NOT work, unless you are bolting them to a Type I.

Decided I`m too lazy to get under my car these last few days to check.

Quite sure though that you and the PET are correct with the M12 bolt. Know what the 17mm VW bolt looks like, the head recesses into the housing. Since we all know the 924 uses VW rear arms assumed the bushes and pivot were the same also. Can`t find anything but hard bushes and bearings to fit 924/44s. 911 bushes may fit but too exy to gamble on.

Am however willing to risk a set of the VW ones to see if they fit our arms. Hoping some inner metal sleeves machined to suit with 12mm ID may do the trick.

VW bushes do have a 22mm bore hole, well 22.4mm actually. A spacer is needed to install these in our 924 steel arms with the stock 12mm bolt.

Problem solved:
