on the track today.
WOW - I went to SCCA's PDX today at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL and had a blast. Best $100 I've spent in a long time. I got three 20 min. session (with instructor twice) on the South Track - 2.1 miles.

What a blast. Surprisingly my little toofah stood the test pretty darn well. Almost spun it on turn two but recovered nicely and didn't loose a spot. Its the first time that car has been pushed in years - if ever. And I thought all the little rattles (only at idle) were a sign of age and weakness - hah - that car surprised (pleasantly) me.
I've done some kart (and snowboard) racing so I was familiar with braking in a straight line, diving into the apex and accelerating through the entire turn but setting yourself up for the next - blah blah blah. And I also know that's only have the battle. Applying the book smarts is a totally different thing.
Anyway, I had a blast and my buddy, who drove is 93 911 RS America, took some photos that I'll post when I get them. He said he got a good shot of me exiting 14.
This is a short lived experience since I simply don't have the funds to commit to this - right now. But I'm glad I got this under my belt before I hand this car to my brother (and then resurrect the other in my garage).
I did see an 87 924S - but never got a chance to meet the driver. _________________ 924.org (no time to complete)

Cool.
Yes, it really brings to light how well our cars are engineered, when you can take them out on the track 30 years later, beat the snot out of 'em, and enjoy it! _________________ Vaughan Scott

Thanks for the replies.
I definitely have a stronger respect for this car - holding up with literally no preparation. I literally signed up, showed up, and after two laps found my concerns to be reversed - I was worried I'd have to hold back my abilities to indulge the car. As I said, that changed after two laps and I felt I could actually push myself - which is what I wanted to do so I could learn something.
Anyway, I was glad to have done it. _________________ 924.org (no time to complete)
