Rediscovered some forgotten pics while cleaning up memory cards. Fairly self explanatory, the drilled holes provide improved NVH dampening. The 2 upper plates (large OD with smaller stepped one underneath) gives a variable rate. Engine vibrations are absorbed mainly on smaller OD face while major torque induced movement is restricted by the larger flange once the smaller step compresses the cushioning material.
Thanks to Pocketscience for the incentive
Also to Ideola and Rich H for some dimensions many ,many moons ago. Oh, thanks to Vibratechnics too for the basic idea and their pricing for the motivation.

Like the use of a facing off tool clamped to the bed of the radial drill, vertical lathe, Webster and Benit style _________________ 924 (84) N/A 2 ltr - 5 Speed - BLACK - Project (looking for 200BHP, any ideas!)

Roger, those are cool!!! You should reproduce and sell them. Do you have any pix of the finished product? Did you use the OEM mounts for the metal core? _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

That drill press really is quite versatile, drill, turn, press, mill, polish, bore & hone even. Chatters a bit though, just like a woman. Used to have a lathe, old Pommy Thornley, same as a Mason or Macson is it? Took up too much room but have nearly done a full circle and am close to getting a new Chinese one. Like this:
Can solve the space problem by knocking a hole in the adjoining wall between garage & lounge. Yeah ..... no need to put a TV in da garage and when friends come over can say "come in the lounge, grab a tool". Want to come over for a screw, how bout a bore?
Sure theres some pix somewhere Dan, will post if/ when they`re found. Is working well mounted in the car but hard to photograph, maybe from underneath down the pit. Had thought about reproducing them, but you surely know how viable this market is, not.
Was another step in the development process. First one was solid and much shorter to basically replace the spring, sitting on stock base rubber. Very harsh, felt like solid mounts. Then removed rubber and made this part bigger which improved things. This version gives much better dampening for engine vibrations, really notice it at idle. Difficult to quantify but similar "smoothness" (or lack of) to stock mount. IMO NVH is improved markedly over stock mount with sagged or broken spring.
Polyurethane comes as a 2 part liquid (A & B) in various hardness grades, measured on shore scale. Mix then mould into shape. Producing these in volume requires a negative mould that can be separated or deformed to release product. The shape with the relief holes complicates this. Easier to machine after for small quantities.
Metal frame is simply a cleaned up old stock one. Both OE mounts use the same frame. Would fabricate from flat bar if making from scratch, most likely with smaller through hole. Had thought about making "kits" that owners could use to replace the stock spring & rubber yet reuse the original frame. Thoughts Dan? Distribution rights? |

Yep, does the trick Rich. Even drills holes too!
Hey Scorpio, don`t know what you intend to do with it but personally looks a bit underpowered and toyish to me. Might be able to do some small jobs in ally but lack of power and rigidity will be a big limitation. Had a similar "toy" type mill in the past and learnt that you get what you pay for. Got rid of it fairly quickly, kept the drill press but. Can easily do small & fine work on a larger lathe, especially new with good slides, screws, bushes. Also much better off getting a separate lathe & mill but don`t suppose you`re setting up a machine shop.
That ebay unit above is a gap bed giving up to 450 swing, 6" 3 jaw, 8" 4 jaw, 900 BC, 2Hp, and goes for around $2800. Big factor for me is its pick up at Pt Adelaide. Wouldn`t want to freight it far as its over 600Kg, hardly a light weight. Also looked at these, Adelaide too:

No idea of what sellers there are around Brissy but this sort of thing is best bought local. Hare & Forbes have branches and resellers around the country.

Absolutely. Would love to see an alternative to the Vibratechs, and would love even more to have them available on the site. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Scorp, that H&F one looks quite reasonable for the price, especially for ally. 400mm swing, hmmm. Wonder how it would go lightening a steel flywheel? Small cuts with very slow feed I imagine. See the ebay one has had lots of offers already. Machinery is one of those items that holds it value very well, and can even appreciate at least against inflation, steel prices and even Labour in China. Good chance you could buy one, use it for a few years and then get your money back. Also have a look here, recommended by a machinist:
http://www.factoryhub.com.au/
So the electric turbo is coming to fruition?
Really have to get down the pit to photograph this mount in action. Not keen as the car is above it on stands. Have to crawl down there soon to retrieve some dropped tools and may remember to stick the camera in my pocket.
Can`t really see much from above. Except that I overlooked replacing the bolts. See what happens when you don`t use stainless. Even putting nuts on underneath is easier than trying to fit the whole mount with the stock studs in place, at least on a RHD. Think I intended to weld nuts on underneath, but worked so well it was forgotten about. OE frame has square holes punched to take a coach head bolt (bumper bolt or whatever they`re commonly called in your locale).
