This is FOR SURE a true thing! I had a $1000 stereo in my GL and it was
pretty ugly, no one ever looked twice at the car. The key is to be sure
to turn your stereo way low, or off when you are in an area with a lot
of people (I.E. The Mall, Movies, ETC). I also believe in hiding your
stereo components behind stock grills, and in all stock locations. No
one steals stock stereo's... The only thing I havent figured out yet, is
how to hide my amp-out cables, when someone steals your head unit, they
always see the cables going back to the amp, and then they want to break
into your trunk to see what is in there. To me $250 for a deck is bad
enough, but when they go get the rest of your system too, its a big
PITA. SOmone told me to glue razor blades on the deck, so when they
reach back to unplug it they get sliced. I think that would fall under
the guise of a "man trap" tho, so Im weary to try it... Advice?

Nah. You still have to clean the blood from the uphostery...

Two words: Taser Club

They can try to steal the deck, or anything else, but in a small car, just try not to touch it.

I use Mobile 1 15-50w in my 931, cuz its turbo, in my Ranger I use whatever 20-50 is the cheapest, and in my 924NA and any VW's I have had I use Castrox GTX religiously. IMHO there is no better Dino oil than GTX.

I use the removeable face on my Pioneer head unit. What they can't see....Plus, when it's at home, the 125 lb. Rottweiller looks after things. And if he can't handle it, I send out Mrs. Diesel.

In my truck everything is hidden, and looks stock except the head unit, which is always taken with me. The truck has tinted windows and an alarm, i think that helps, they usually won’t steal what they can’t see. If someone is gonna break into my explorer they are gonna do it no stopping them.. so when i park in high risk places ( i have vent-a-shades over side windows) i always crack the windows open about a 1/4 of an inch. so if they want to get in it wont take much to break the window and unlock the door. A few years ago i had it all buttoned up tight and they ended up breaking three windows till they finally found one they could get through. I see it as damage control really. they will take your sh*t just try not to ruin my paint and finish in the mean time.

Here’s where you guys might think im nuts.. as for the 924, i will be putting in a very inexpensive head unit and (hopefully new rear speakers if i can get that panel off ) and i for the most part plan on leaving the car unlocked. I have no personals in it, if they want the $90 head unit, take it, its yours just dont ruin my paint, glass or doors.

my two cents. i was curious how you guys look at it.

Kevin

i'm tinting my windows to 5%, plus i have one of those sun reflectors for when i park - out of sight out of mind. i have a removable faceplate, which i remove half the time and flip down the other half. it looks gone either way. advertise your security system (with stickers, blinking LEDs, blinking marker lights, etc) and i don't think you'll really have that much trouble. i also have a bright red club. around here, nobody picks on the cars that are alarmed.

Unless they have a nic system. I prefer my method, very similar to the Tazer method. Get a good alarm, one with impact and breakage sensor, and hook the siren signal to a 5 sec delay, and also route the signal to a very powerful amp and a capacitor, which electrify your door handles.

Smash, unlock, attempt to open door, fall to ground in convulsions, BEEWEEWEEEWEEWEE...

Just electrify a strip of metal on the inside of the door lock. It doesn't get electrified unless somebody knocks the car, or busts a window. It turns off when you hit the alarm..

booby traps are illegal in the USA, even in your home, because the potential for an innocent person, or child to be hurt or killed by an ill concieved or designed device can kill, especially electrical devices. you can be charged with " criminally negligent homecide , fellony assault",and be sued for damages, even criminals who break into your home can sue you if the punishment is more severe than the crime ( cripling injuries ). there are removable tracks that you can mount your electronics to and slide them out and take them with you or put them in the trunk.

Yeah, booby traps are illegal. The advantage of this system is it is only activated if somebody sets off the alarm. If they are just trying the door handle to see if it is unlocked, nothing happens, unless it sets off your alarm...

The most common way your stuff will get stolen, is somebody will see what they want, and break your window. By hooking the system up to the breakage detector, there is no way somebody else will get shocked.

I'm not sure what the exact tolerances of the human body are, they vary from person to person... I do know that the popular border patrol and prison guard hot ticket, the 40 amp stun baton, has a habit of killing 1/4 of the people on contact... This would be the optimum setup. The advantage is, the system resets after a discharge, so they will never even find it

ok first off never leave your car unlocked yes if they want in they will get in but if you leave it unlocked the chances of having you car stolen are good and then you have even more to worry about, if you want to detour thieves dark tint in the back window so they cant see sub, also tint quarter windows, install with an alarm and have a very noticable blinking red light then DONT put on any alarm stickers so they dont know what type of alarm it is, or put on the wrong sticker. also mount video cameras in your car in the mane points of enter or where there faces would be while jacking the unit also dont make them aware the unit is under survalance because then they will were a mask, and most people dont were masks when stealing shit it looks too suspicous if they are seen.

Well, I am of the opinion you should have power locks, operated from the center console. Have it hooked to your alarm fob.

I like the 40 amp idea, I don't like thieves. I made be involved in shady dealings, but I don't condone theft.

Just use the ultimate sub box. Get a nice enclosure, and then put it in a ratty looking carboard box...
