|
|
Helped swap in the lexan hatch onto a 944 Cup car, while on scales, yesterday... so we have hard numbers on the weight savings. It was 25lbs saved vs. the stock glass hatch. Not 50, not 75.
So, if you guys think it's worth $500 or whatever to lose 25#... better check the price on the gym membership again??? _________________ Vaughan Scott

Need to mention... 25 lbs from the top are better than 25 lbs from the bottom (e.g. driver's seat). It's all about heght of center of masses and body roll in corners. That's why the hood, roof and rear hatch are more important in lightening than tranny and engine. _________________ WBR, Shurick

For comparison's sake, I lost 50 lbs for $120 (see Vaughan's suggestion above). _________________ Toofah King Bad

But my "dry" weight (without beer) is 74 kilos. I've got no options for weightsaving here... _________________ WBR, Shurick

I always fill my fuel tank just enough to get to the next pump. Saves me more than 60 lbs (and remember, I don't know how much lbs is, but i'm sure i'll save that anyway ) _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

It depends on the plastic used on hatch also. Usual Lexan is pretty heavy but we are allowed to use 2mm material called Verolite and that + hatch frame makes it very light. I'll take mine to scales soon. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Cheers... yeah, everything bolted right up, except that (no surprise) we had to adjust hatch pins a few times and the latch and all before we got it to open smoothly. You think it's tough trying to climb in back to pop the hatch open - you should try doing it over a rollcage!!! I had to twice...
Good call on Kaminsky's - we were NOT disappointed!! Definitely have to remember that place if/when we're back in the area, thanks!! The Jaeger chicks were there too, excellent food, and excellent beer selection.
We made out pretty well the next day; qualified 3rd (out of 7) for the enduro, finished 5th in great order, running strong, same lap times as we started with! Learned a lot about that track too. Biggest handicaps were not enough power (car not running quite right - AFM and possibly also DMEin poor shape) and too small a fuel cell resulting in too short range, had to add an extra pit stop (most did 3, we had to do 4). Still the planning etc were excellent. Classes were all screwed up, we took 2nd in class though... _________________ Vaughan Scott
