Merritt (my wife) survived day 1 of Driver's School... off to a bit of a bumpy start with a couple of spins, but then a massive t-storm hit us (winds up to 50-70mph, pretty bad) just as she was on grid for her 3rd session... that killed our canopy (finally), hosed everything down (including us!) pretty bad.
Switched her over to rains, they dried off the track a little by showing the students the rain line, then they took the track for a wet session... and she absolutely loved it!
A couple more sessions in the dry, speeds were coming up, guys are starting to look a lot more like racers out there!
Today's agenda starts with an early, 8AM track walk, then more lapping, and finally some practice races this afternoon!! _________________ Vaughan Scott

Quick update - she passed! They got plenty more rain time, including their practice race starts and the practice race, all on dry tires... she even got a pole start, from shuffling the grid order... turns out she's a real terror on track in the rain, absolutely loves it - if she doesn't pull a Hamilton and can keep it on track!
She also bought her first set of race tires Sunday! LOL Planning to get her race license for real now, now that she realizes she likes it!
Of course, her next step is to clean out all the mud and gravel from the car... buried it in the kitty litter near the end of the practice race... just can't brake that late and expect the car to turn in, when it's wet out!
Sure to be more photos, video, etc coming later... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Maybe you should put #77 in an endurance race and you and the wife can co-drive? _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Vaughan,
Give your wife my congratulations! I was the chief instructor for 21 SCCA schools and it rained at 20 of them. The best place for learning how to race is on a wet track at a school. Natural rain drivers make the best racers later. You are in trouble, Dude.
