Long overdue; this is the exciting conclusion of last year's American Road Race of Champions, the battle between me and Aaron Stehly for the last two steps on the podium:

Enjoy!

Vaughan,

Real nail biter!! great driving, but he really stuffed you on the exit where he passed you. You were way etter on the brakes into the left before the Suzuki bridge.
But fair play to him for recognising your strength and mitigating it!!
great footage, thanks!!

Steve

Cheers! Yeah, it was a great, clean race... I had pretty much resigned myself to 3rd as we came into the braking zone on the last lap; he'd certainly earned it with clean driving, and I didn't want to take him out on the brakes, and had no idea how to get around him in that situation. That's clearly something for me to study and come up with a plan of attack!

In case anyone forgot - he had a hidden advantage in this race, in that I was suffering from a concussion 12 laps earlier in the race when I got t-boned, which also incurred damage to the RH side of the car; finished the race with much more camber in the RF than should've been there, so the car wasn't all that happy about turning left!

The trackside announcing really makes that vid, IMO!

excelent race ! hats off !
the golf is faster on the straight line but that guy is really early on the brakes and the cornering is not that impressive. could it be that with some engine tuning you should be able to equalise that straigth line handicap?

Actually he's not usually faster on the straights; the aero was badly impaired by the impact on lap 4 (RF fender into scrap tinfoil, RH door hanging open a couple inches), and the engine tuning was suffering; not sure if it was totally due to the impact, but I think we'd also misadjusted the mix and she was running quite rich, the plugs were pretty badly loaded up at the end. So yes, some engine tuning, and some aero efficiency.

Early in the race it was possible to see that we had the fastest car on the straights, probably the best trap speeds.
