Hi all,
Im planing on picking up my car this week and before I post some pics I wanted to at least make 1 post.
Im from Adelaide, Australia. I have a 1981 924 Carrera GT with a few mods. I havent driven it in a long time ( only 48k on the odometer).
Some quick info on some of the mods completed
Motec M4 ECU with Traction control and flat shift options and boost control
T35BB Garret turbo
Custom exhaust manifold and stainless 3" exhaust
Boxster front brakes (black ones? maybe boxster S)
Custom valved konis
400lb springs. (maybe 450)
28mm rear torsion bar
Fiberglass bonnet.
Custom Race seats. (aka GT3 style)
Half cage
Once I pick it up and give it a clean I will post some pics.
BTW I still have all original gear that was taken off this car, but I doubt I would reverse any of these mods. This car has a bit of sentimental value for me so I cant really sell it.

Another Aussie! And with a Carrera GT no less! Welcome aboard.
Is it a real one? With those mod's I'm guessing it's seen some track work? Does it have some history you'd care to share?
Mmm... racing Porsches. My favourite. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Was purchased in 82 low km's second owner.
Yes it is a real one. I did a little bit of track work in the mid 90's in local Porsche club (A few sprints, occasional motorkhana). Never wanted to turn it into a true race car. So it still has all interior as per original. (Apart from front seats, these have been stored away).
Also did a Targa Tasmania in late 90's. Had a very minor off and realised I didnt want to scratch it so I wrapped it in cotton wool ever since.
Ten years later... its time to give it a service and clean it up and for use!. |

Supposedly there were a few sold in Australia. You don't happen to know where the other ones are, do you? _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

i heard around 20 were originally imported
with such a rare car..seems strange for it to be so modified
how much was it worth? guessing around the 35 mark? _________________ Red 1977 Porsche 924 CGT...THE MORPH IS COMPLETE |

I've heard 4, 5, 20, 25... I don't think there's any definitive answer yet. Given that it was an homologation special and that it would have been fantastically expensive (in Australia) when new, I'd very strongly suspect that Porsche never directly exported any to Australia i.e. Australia was not an 'official' market for the cars when new. However, I also strongly suspect that either dealers or private buyers imported some of the small batch of RHD examples that were built for the U.K. (I'm under the impression that these RHD cars were for the U.K. only? Somewhere along the line I got it into my head that the Carrera GT was only 'officially' sold in Germany and the U.K. but I could be wrong on that?).
It's probably a moot point, I just find the politics fascinating sometimes. I would like to know how many did eventually make it to Oz, though... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |
