Hey ppls
I gots a question about the front lights on my 924,
As one of my head lights got broken last week i need to replace the unit.
Is it just the standard 7inch round lights that i can get for my car? im presuming any motor shop will have them.
Also in dis-assembley... is it just the 3 screws around the light that i need to take off?
Any help would be great
Thanks

Yes, they're just the standard round bulb.
For disassembly: you need to remove the front plastic surround, then you should see the screws holding the bulb itself into the frame. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Hey,
Thanks for reply, i just went to the motor shop to get me some and had the guy look them up with Hella, he took all the part umbers and stuff, i was then told 5 minutes later that these are Porsche products and id have to go a porsche dealer to get them,
sounds a bit strange to me, what do ye think?

They all have them and they are not special. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

Not too sure here. Possibly the US spec lights are different to the E code ROW ones.
When replacing mine found out the common 7" lens unit, sealed beam and H4 housing did not fit either and was about 1/4" smaller. Also IIRC the positioning lugs didn`t line up. Since one lens was broken and both reflectors poor I cut off the housing part and glued the slightly smaller H4 housings in. Same frame and adjustment screws and new generic reflector/lenses. |

RC,
Aren't the headlight lenses different on a LHD car though? I think I remember someone talking about the fact that they are designed differently since you guys drive on the other side of the road. I could be wrong though

I think the lamps are directed to the side. Opposite of ours. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

Yes Ryan, they are different. Particularly with low beam that dips to the left on RHD (away from oncoming vehicles on right) whereas its opposite in US and most European countries. IIRC 90% of the world drives on the right.
It is the housings that are probably different too for some reason. I had the same problem as the OP trying to get a replacement light without going to the dealer. Went to 2 or 3 FLAPS and all said to go genuine as the common ones did not fit. That`s all I really know though. |

I heard a rumour that the old MK1 golf (rabbit in the us) has the same lights. And i tried it fitted pretty well, it was dirt cheap to. new and nice, the problem was the rubber cover that didnt fit very well.. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

The ROW RHD lights are different than US models.
(not sure about LHD)
Where the US model has a retaining ring which holds the lamp on the RHD has the ring as part of the lamp itself. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA
