My dad just bought me a used 1988 Porsche 924S.. Well, I'm 17 yrs old, and not one of my friends can compare to a car like this. The day I drove the car to the mechanic it was totally a euphoria. The car is fast, the handling is tight, the ride is bumpy, but well worth it. The car is dark blue, and god does it look good. The car came in perfect body condition, the interior is perfect, except for a seat rip. Anyway, I was looking at the odometer, and it only holds 5 digits.. The car says 63,000 miles, but I don't know if it's 163,000, is their a way to tell? Anyway, my dad bought the car for $2200 which is awesome. Now, I'm looking to put a chip in the car, does anyone have any suggestions? Also, the factory stereo sucks, does anyone have a suggestion for a cheap CD player that would be great for the car?

Trust me, I appreciate the fact he bought it for me.. It's crazy, so many jealous people. I'm expecting my car to blow my other friends cars. I pretty much sit inside the car everyday, the car isnt insured yet, but hopefully I can get it by this week, what do you think I will expect for a fee in NJ? Anyway, I wanted to add a performance chip, would I expect any car problems, and is the installation easy, how much more HP do I obtain? Next, I want to change the stereo unit only, none of the speakers (way to much work, i want to keep it all authentic), will the sound suck with the factory speakers? Finally, one of backlights for the brakes isnt working, what's going on?

That is a -very- nice car. Your friends cars will especially appreciate it.

(I think you left out a word there - might want to edit that.)

amaf,

congrats to your dad for the choice, and one thing your friends will even more appreciate is if you could fix it when needed (!!you will!!) right before them.

So Read the Frequently Asked Questions,
(or as Vaughan would say: RTFAQ)
and the technical section.

I'm hoping I'll be able to pay for maintence costs, but my plan is to try to learn as much as possible, and to do it at home. I've been reading everything on the car for atleast 4 months so far. I either wanted a Porsche 944 or Corvette, I got the Porsche 924 auto, but I'm still freaking happy. I just sat in the car, and god it smells incredible. The car has so much freaking power. Now I need to make it look hotter.

Yeah, and you can swap in 944 and 968 engines with only two problems. One is getting the aircleaner assembly to fit, and the other is getting the 944/968 motor.

Well, I'm not into swapping engines, way to much money and work for me. I'm just hoping this car lasts me a long time without getting raped with maintence or repairs. Any type of advice I need?
