I just ordered the stock porsche parts to convert to gas struts for the hood... I seriously haven't got any idea how and where the stuff goes, so I hope someone has a pic.

Found this thread.
http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=5311

Now I'm quite shocked by the fact that I'll get problems with my battery.

Am I right if I don't need the stand anymore when I convert to struts?

Do I need to weld the mounting stuff to my car, or is it bolt on?
BTW...stuff I ordered was from the pet parts list, couldn't see much about fitting.

thanks!

As far as I can see, the mounts on the hood itself are welded?

Can't see much of the lower mounts, but I guess those are welded too.

Don't feel much like welding, but I could first give it a try with epoxy adhesive, if it works, it can be permanented with welds.
Hope I don't make it a rust bucket by welding the stuff....

Yes, they're all welded - spot welds (2 on each of the three "tangs" of the lower mounts, and 2 spot welds on each of the 2 tangs of each upper mount).

I'd give the epoxy by itself a no...I'd at least go with either a combination of sheet metal screw and epoxy, or rivet and epoxy. "Glue it and screw it" - just like any of the many forms of quality woodworking.

Any ideas how to figure out the position where the mounts should go?

On smoothies pics I can estimate the hood ones...but the lower ones? Just see what the best place is when the hood is up and the struts at their longest?

Do I still need the hood stand?
