OK now I will wait for the s*!t to begin after giving the fuzzy bunny crap about putting subs in his car and how all young people liked subs.
But after installing a stereo and putting A SPEAKER in the dash and a pair in the rear panels both only 6x4's I think. I was really unimpressed with the sound quality, it was lacking a little in the middle and ship loads in bass. So I decided I would go on a mission and find where I could install speakers with the critera that I couldnt cut anything and I couldnt put screw holes into anything.
What I came up with is not finished yet and will be quite a task to get finished however I think that it will work quite well. I am building fiberglass speaker boxes to fit in the luggage compartment in the two holes in either side. the boxes will just slip in and fit perfectly (I hope) with a little rubber stripping to hold them in tight stuck to the walls of the holes. The ones I am building will be perfect volume for 8" subs but could easily be modified for either smaller 6" speakers or larger 10" jobs (I will have to check that 10" will fit the top space first). the plan is to paint the bottom in the hole bit brown to match the interior and to then carpet the top out of the hole bit to match the boot carpet.
I was thinking of maybe selling these on ebay as I am guessing that the hole is the same on the 944 as well and the work I have put in to make the mold justifies making more than one set can I get an opinion on if anyone thinks these would sell or have I put all this work in to make a mold to just make my one set _________________ 1977 924 2.0 Auto |

One thing you need to be careful with is that different subs require different amounts of airspace and the bigger the sub the more it will need. I'm not sure how much space those compartments hold, but I'm sure you could plug the hole in the bottom and fill it with a certain amount of water (keeping track o'course) and do some conversion math to find out what the size is in cubic feet.

thanks druman I knew that the volume was important but rather than do the calculations I just went and asked my friend who owns a stereo show winner (and the shop that did the installation) and he gave me the required volume of the 8" I was looking at.
I had done something similar to check the enclosure volume except I filled my first mold (the positive that I made the negative from to make the final thing if you know what I mean) with water (it was easier than filling the car)
Oh and one of the many advantages of living in a country that uses a metric system is that no real conversion is needed 1 litre is 100 cubic centimetres, come on guys get with the program the advantages are many.
I thought all 8" would be about the same volume but I guess it sort of makes sense that they would not all be identical but they should be in the vacinity so one mold would be good enough, with the 6 and 10 I was planning to mod by either cutting it down or building it higher but this is a little far off to plan for yet, I just hope mine look good and work as I have planned _________________ 1977 924 2.0 Auto |

Good point, probably more accurate this way.

Also a good point, I wish everything was like that. It would make life so much simpler.

subwoofer enclosure size can vary dramatically for one sub. I used to have a kicker CVR 15'' and I made 3 different boxes for it. A 6 cu.ft. ported, 5.2 cuft sealed and a 1.8 cu ft sealed. Each box made the sub sound drastically different and was better for a certain type of music.
if you plan on selling this as a product look up the specs on various subs and see which sub matches the volume of your custom enclosure. Then when you sell these you can focus in on a certain market of subwoofers.
The technical info on subs is usually available on the website of that sub.
