The IOC and Vanoc (Vancouver Olympic Committee) are a bunch of dictatorial goons.
They have trademark police patrolling businesses to look for any trademarks NOT registered as sponsors and then threaten court action if it's not removed from public view.

Volunteers must tape over any logos for shoes or clothing they are wearing before appearing at a venue.

They even tried to trademark the number 2010 so no one could use it in a store window.
The word Olympic in a business name was protested in court by VANOC and luckily they lost. Greek restaurants typically use that name. VANOC tried to close them all.
If your logo has a flame in it. They went after you.

These guys are not our friends.

Kinda like the Porsche police, eh?

Last go-round, watched the Canadian Curling team win gold. Took quite a few beers, but, fun to watch average people, who probably suck suds as well, versus the semi-pro spandex crowd. Looking forward to some rock throwing again! burp~!

Why didnt they just issue nazi uniforms to the volunteers instead of making them put tape over thier clothes (almost every piece of clothing esp shoes have a logo)

Holy shit, who let you into my country exactly? Sorry Khalon but I gotta laugh my ass off at this !! Why,correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't it just this morning that I offered to put a $100 bet that we would take hockey gold and it was a certain Aussie that tried to talk me down to $1 instead ? And wasn't it YOU that told me Canada has a great shot at speed skating gold among others ? HAHAHA ,cheap bastard !!

I know that Australia as a nation loves it's sport and hey, when that's all you've got, you're welcome to them. Ra-Ra and all that drivel. Wow,I feel like a lesser nation because we're not good at recess. Me,i'm happy to be better at,well, everything else.

We may be 'games nay sayers because we don't want to be left holding a multi-BILLION dollar bill for this joke called the Olympics. Sorry, but the rich Nazi pricks of the I.O.C. don't need to rape my country to get any richer.

But when it comes to winter sports....well we are the Great White North so bring it on ! (except Richmond which is The Great Yellow North, and Surrey of course,The Great Brown North,and....)[/b]

Aussies will win the gold in ice hockey provided;
A) all teams get lost on the way to the venue and arrive in the third period
B) forget their skates
C) are paralytically drunk
D) are blind
E) can't tell the difference betwwen the puck and an orange
F) allow spectators to throw oranges into the rink
G) give us a ten goal head start

even then it's going to be close....

Let tell me you this, this year the germans win the hockey gold...because they have the nice`st logo on their upper-right-arm.....or....was it on the left...bla,bla....dont blame or talked about the nazi-shit when it comes to sport.
There are a lot of people living in vancouver who left germany in the 1930Th for such a good reason.

And Khal: Not all people understand your kind of humor, and, wasn`t it you who likes to be a canadian?

What I find funny is that there is no snow here and they are having to truck and helicopter snow in for the event.

Plus on top of that, the first day of the olympics the venue goes up for auction as the current owners are bankrupt.

I wish that they would have had it in Jasper, or banff, where they are guarenteed to get tons of snow!

I like ausies canucks and germans.

trademark police, hum, to make people cover logos is very stupid. to bust countefiters is not.

winter olympics with no snow, so much for the great white north.

Sydney showed that if you do it right you can come out in front... maybe summer games are easier to make money - but Sydney came out over $300M in the black, and the infrastructure built is still used today - much of it paid for by private firms in the first place (stadium, pool, indoor arena). And that didn't include all the off-shoot benefits such as increased tourism, increased overseas investment, etc etc.

Anyway, the restriction on displaying trademarks is to stop the Olympics being over-run by the Nikes, Adidas, etc of the world I imagine. Seems weird that would include something like the boxing 'roo which isn't actually selling anything except a big dose of patriotism.

I'm glad the AOC didn't cave in to the IOC muppets.
